形態特徵

• Culms loosely tufted, 15-40 cm tall, triquetrous, smooth except in inflorescence axis.
• Leaves several, shorter than culm; blades 2.5-4.5 mm wide; sheaths dark purple brown.
• Spikes 2 or 3 rarely to 5; terminal spike gynaecandrous with a short staminate part at base; lateral spikes pistillate, ellipsoid to oblong, 1-2.5 cm long, ca. 5 mm across, densely many-flowered, subsessile to long peduncled. Bracts sheathless, setaceous to scale-like excepted lowest one often leafy and slightly overtopping inflorescence.
• Pistillate glumes ovate, 3-4 mm long, dark purplish brown, rather dull, acute at apex, pale brownish keel forming a mucro at apex. Utricles oval, 3.8-4 mm long, plano-convexed, pale-yellowish with brownish flecks especially on upper part, abruptly narrowed at both ends, without conspicuous veins except for two costas, minutely papillose, beak short, emarginate at orifice. Achenes loosely contained, obovate, ca. 2 mm long, trigonous; stigmas 3.

分布

• 台灣 : alpine grasslands.
• 世界 : Arctic and subarctic regions of Europe, Asia and North America, also in alpine areas of the Himalaya, China and Japan.
